Commercial Recording Corporation

Master Jingle Package List.

CRC was started by Tom Merriman in 1955. Until the company close in 1968, Tom Merriman had been an intermittent influence. He left in 1962 to work with Peter Frank but rejoined in 1965. He finally left in 1967 to start TM Productions with Jim Long.

John Coyle had become a partner in CRC in 1959. He later would become the majority owner. He voluntarily closed the company in 1968.

There are a number of missing CRC packages and there are a number of un-number CRC packages. The list is based from research using actual CRC tapes and other verified sources. A few educated guess are included. They are identified with a ####. These packages either fall into an order based on date of production or by musical and vocal style.

A Series #7 demo has never been found. The package is known to have existed. The WCAE package called "Fun Radio" consists of backgrounds from TV-1. Given the number of other packages from the same era that were found, this is the only candidate for Series #7.

A CRC Series #16 demo has also never been found. But at the time of its production, Tom Merriman recorded his first Mitch Miller Sing-A-Long package as a custom for WABC at CRC. This and a similar follow up package were to become CRC #15 and #18. WHHM was produced as a Tom Merriman custom at CRC with-in the same time frame. Cut sheets from session confirm this. So fare, this is the only candidate for Series #16.

The Media Preservation Foundation will be producing a CRC box set containing a complete station example or demo version of each known CRC package in the Foundation's library.

The master CD set has been completed and production will be started with availablity expected in early 2007. Pricing has not been determined.

Merriman's "You Always Hear " with-out calls may be a CRC product. A demo, found with other Merriman items, of the package is identified as "D" Series.

Some Merriman work for PFO/Ullman around 1962 and 1963 is very CRC like in sound. Several CRC packages exist from a short period of time round 1962 that indicate that they were sold to stations by PFO/Ullman.

Tom Merriman Productions produced jingles from 1964 until the formation of TM Prodcutions in April 1967. Most of these were produced at Sumet Recording. Stations using Tom Merriman Productions jingles included WIBG, WKYC, WSAI, WQXI, WFUN and KILT.

The Merriman produced "Power House" package was originally known as "Star Bright" and produced for the Star Stations Group WIFE, KOIL and KISN in 1964. This was not a CRC package. It later was widely heard as the result of sales by Studio Ten under the name "Power House". WKNR and WMAK used this package
